Paris Denounces Attacks on Christian Institutions in Jerusalem, Israel

(MENAFN) France has strongly condemned what it described as rising violence targeting Christians, their places of worship, and religious institutions in occupied East Jerusalem and Israel, according to statements from the French Foreign Ministry.

Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot raised the issue during talks on Tuesday with Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, ahead of a conference scheduled for June 12 in Paris. The meeting is set to bring together Israeli and Palestinian civil society representatives to discuss prospects for a two-state solution.

France reiterated its commitment to preserving the Christian presence in the Holy Land and supporting religious freedom and pluralism across the Middle East.

Barrot condemned, “in the strongest possible terms,” what he described as increasing violence, intimidation, and attacks against Christians, their places of worship, and institutions across Jerusalem, Palestine, and Israel.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining the historical status quo at Jerusalem’s holy sites, calling it a key pillar for the city’s stability and for broader regional peace.
