Iran Vows Response After US Military Action in Southern Regions
In remarks posted on social media, Araghchi said the United States had chosen to challenge Iran despite what he described as setbacks in previous confrontations.
“Despite its defeats on the battlefield, the US opted to test our determination,” Araghchi said.
He stressed that Iran’s military would respond firmly to any hostile action, adding: “Our powerful armed forces will leave no attack or threat unanswered.”
Araghchi also cautioned Washington against maintaining a military presence in the region, saying: “leave our region if you want to be safe.”
Referring to the history of foreign involvement in the Gulf, he added: “History of the Persian Gulf has many chapters on dire fates of intruding outsiders.”
His comments came after reports of explosions and projectile impacts in several locations across Hormozgan province in southern Iran. According to reports, incidents were recorded in Qeshm Island, Sirik, Minab and Jask, while air defense systems were activated in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm and Sirik.
Later, state media reported that the attacks had subsided and that conditions in the affected areas had become “nearly calm.”
The escalation followed an announcement from US Central Command (CENTCOM), which said American forces had initiated what it described as “self-defense” operations against Iran. According to the US military, the action was carried out in response to an earlier incident involving the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter.
