Israeli Airstrikes Kill 9 in Gaza City, Killing Entire Family of Five

(MENAFN) At least nine Palestinians were killed and 20 others wounded late Wednesday when Israeli warplanes and helicopters struck multiple residential buildings across Gaza City, local sources reported, in what sources described as a serious breach of a ceasefire that has been in place since October 10 last year.

The strikes hit simultaneously across western and northern Gaza City, targeting homes in the Shati refugee camp, the Sheikh Ridwan neighborhood, the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood, and the Muhabarat area, sources said.

The single deadliest blow fell on the fourth floor of the Lebid apartment building in the Muhabarat area, where five members of one family perished in the attack. The victims were identified as Hassan Rebah Lebid, his wife Manar, and their three children, Mohammed, Rahaf, and Tamim. The family's nine-year-old daughter, Hala, was pulled alive from the rubble, sustaining minor injuries.

Elsewhere, two Palestinians were killed in a strike on a residential apartment in Tel al-Hawa. At least two additional fatalities were recorded following strikes on the Muhanna family home in the Shati refugee camp and a residence near the Abu Amin junction in Sheikh Ridwan, sources said.

The overnight strikes come against the backdrop of a devastating and prolonged conflict. Since October 2023, nearly 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 173,000 injured — the majority of them women and children — according to Palestinian figures.

Despite the ceasefire that took effect on October 10, 2025, near-daily Israeli military attacks have continued. The Gaza Media Office reports that 932 Palestinians have been killed and a further 2,859 wounded since the truce was declared.
